This sad state of affairs made scientists go back to the drawing board to find a lasting solution to the problem. The presence of AIDS drugs referred to as antiretroviral drugs came as a relieve to many and would save the world from a deadly disease. However, a study by the WHO and the University College London indicated some bad news. The resistances to the drugs remain a worrying trend and continue to increase in parts of Africa, Asia, Latin America and Caribbean. Scientists have discovered that this is common in the eastern and southern African regions; indeed the class of drug that was found wanting is in the class of non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors the most common are nevirapine and efavirenz which is sold as Viramune and Sustiva.
