contemporary culture, whether in a work of art, a work of literature, a film, a marketing campaign, or a social construct (e.g., reality television or social media).
Doing this will demonstrate how certain themes resonate with various cultures, and it will highlight the persistence of shared themes across time.

 

 

Quest for immortality

1. Introduction

The essay discusses the theme of the quest for immortality by examining two different pieces of art, one visual and another literary. A comparative approach is used to examine how the idea has crossed over the time and infiltrated in the modern culture. The first piece of art is the “Epic of Gilgamesh”. This epic poem emanated from the ancient Mesopotamia and was written in 2000 B.C. The poem was first written in Semitic (Akkadian) language. The modern version of the poem was translated and written by R. Campbell Thompson from the original tablets found in the British Museum. The second article is the Statuettes of Worshippers from the square temple at Eshnunna in Sumeria which is currently known as Iraq and was written in 2700 B.C. The article presents the culture of the Sumerian within the periods of 2900-2350 B.C (Dimock 23)
