The essay discusses the theme of the quest for immortality by examining two different pieces of art, one visual and another literary. A comparative approach is used to examine how the idea has crossed over the time and infiltrated in the modern culture. The first piece of art is the “Epic of Gilgamesh”. This epic poem emanated from the ancient Mesopotamia and was written in 2000 B.C. The poem was first written in Semitic (Akkadian) language. The modern version of the poem was translated and written by R. Campbell Thompson from the original tablets found in the British Museum.
