Energy Supply Mix Analysis

The pattern through which energy is consumed in a country over the years is provided by the energy mix. This mix changes in regard to factor influencing the consumption of that energy source. These factors include the price considerations, availability of the energy source, impacts to the environment and suitability (Harris & Roach, 2013).  In order to establish current energy supply mix and past trends therein, the TPES data for china, Japan, Australia and US will be analyzed for 2010 and 1990.

Australia TPES Data for 1990 and 2010

The energy supply in Australia in 1990 was comprised of coal, crude oil, natural gas, hydropower, biofuels and waste as well as geothermal and solar energy. These primary energy sources were variedly distributed probably due external factors. The TPES data for Australia in 1990 indicates that coal was the leading source with 35.129 million tons, crude oil followed closely with 33.074 million tons, while natural gas, hydropower, biofuels and waste as well as geothermal and solar energy recorded 14.786, 1.217, 0.81 and 3.961 million tons respectively (IEA, 2015).The energy mix for the year is represented in the chart below.
