You are required to submit a 2500 word essay, based on a company of your choice (it does not have to be the same as task 1) entitled:

Evaluate the Sources of Finance utilised by a company of your choice and provide recommendations and advice on how they could improve business and profit through the use of contemporary sources of finance.

Marks will be awarded based on:

Structure of essay;
Use of underpinning theory & appropriate in text referencing;
Content of essay and ability to critically evaluate the company, sources of finance & make appropriate recommendations.

In the event of a resit

In the event that you have been asked to resubmit the work, you are to complete the tasks as directed by the tutor with additional commentary on what you have changed in light of the feedback received from the first attempt.

Your essay will be structured as per the formal essay requirements.
The essay will use correct paragraphing, formal grammar, tenses and spelling.
The essay will be word-processed.
The essay will be formatted as double-spaced, justified and with a font size of exactly 12 in either Arial or Times New Roman.
The pages will be consecutively numbered.
The essay will be submitted via Moodle.
The correct cover sheet must be submitted with your assignment.

REFERENCING & BIBLIOGRAPHY

The Harvard Referencing System will be used conventionally to identify all secondary research

A conventional and complete Bibliography using the Harvard Referencing System will be included.

For a level 4 module assessment, a minimum of six (6) references should be used.

For a level 5 module assessment, a minimum of ten (10) references should be used.

For a level 6 module assessment, a minimum of fifteen (15) references should be used.

Please note that you are NOT allowed to include any reference from the Wikipedia website or from lecturer notes – your assessment may be adversely graded if Wikipedia or lecturer notes features in the referencing or Bibliography.

WORD COUNT GUIDELINES

You may go 10% above or below the word count stated in the assessment brief.

Example: 2500 + 10% = 2750 or – 10% = 2250.

Tutors will mark the word count stated in the assessment brief (plus or minus the 10% above or below).

Example: Tutors will mark to 2750 or 2250 as normal and without penalty.

Tutors will not continue to mark any work above and beyond the word count in the assessment brief (plus or minus the 10% above or below). You will be penalised based on the remaining work being unread and unmarked. You will not receive feedback or marks for this part of your work.

Evaluate the various sources of finance used by the company.

Use appropriate in text referencing and bibliographies

Carry out a SWOT analysis of the company with recommendations to overcome weaknesses and withstand threats.
Critically analyse the relevance of the various financial resources used by the company and make recommendations on the relevance of the various sources.

Carry out a performance analysis using Ratios and comment on the factors affecting those ratios.
Consider share prices and their movement on the stock exchange.
Discuss contemporary sources of finance and how they may impact on your company’s profitability.

In addition to the above, for a student to achieve 70%+, they must:

Show a graphical trend analysis of your company’s share price movement and behaviour.
Critically evaluate media influence on business performance and recommend what businesses need to do to ensure positive effects.
Give a concise conclusion that considers the future outlook of the company and gives recommendations for improved performance.
