You are working for a geotechnical engineering company and your line manager is asking you to analyse the software STB, which is free and you can download from the web page http://geo.verruijt.net/ (STB 2010 software and SlopStability.pdf file). Your technical team needs from you a report based on the information you have access, in order to decide, if the software can be used to solve problems and run an analysis of slope stability for your company clients.

Topic Marks

• § Brief explanation of the theory on what the software is based (Introduction) 15%
• § Study of the program code identifying which language was used and the different subroutines. Where, in the code, different aspects of the problem of slope stability are solved (Body). 20%
• § You have to study the software Slop Stability (STB) and learn how to use the software, run an example created by yourself and analyse critically your own results (Body). 40%
• § Based on your study, conclude about the quality and applicability of the software for your company (Conclusion) 25%

Marking criteria

The marks obtained will take into consideration the quality of the report and contents, written English, figures, references and global organisation of the report. An introduction is welcome as well as numbering figures and tables with references in the text (see structure of the report in the next page). The report has to be submitted  in word or pdf format (any other format will not be accepted). The file size is limited to 50 Mbytes.
