Human Resources: Debbie`s DilemmaName:Institution:Date:Frederick Herzberg proposed a Two Factor Theory of motivation that is also known as the Dual Factor or the Hygiene/Maintenance theories of motivation. According to this theory, certain factors cause job satisfaction while other factors cause dissatisfaction. The hygiene factors according to Frederick have minimal contribution to job satisfaction and referred to them as dissatisfiers because their absence leads to job dissatisfaction, but their presence only eliminates dissatisfaction but does not motivate (Teek-Hong & Waheed, 2011). These are, for example, policies and administration, supervision, working conditions, relationships with subordinates and superiors, salary, job security, status, personal life, benefits. Motivating factors, on the other hand, are forces of job satisfaction as they generate long lasting positive effects.
