Dependent and Independent Variables experiment Name of student Institution Instructor Course Date due Introduction Bt corn which is a Genetically Modified Organism (GMO) has been in existence since the 1990`s, acting as an insect pest and an insect pathogen. (Hall H., 2005) Specifically, Bt corn is used to produce a protein toxin which is essential in the elimination of the infamous European Corn Borer (ECB). With all its positive results against ECB, there is a considerable measure of opposition to the use of Bt corn, mainly due to human health concerns. Some of the human health problems arising from the use of Bt corn include allergenicity, toxins, and antibiotic resistance genes. (Hall H., 2005) However, most of these purported risks are still at the test stage. Back to the experiment, Bt corn is a crucial component of pest management in the production of corn. In the management of ECB, Bt corn is not so effective because its short lifespan does not cope well with the ECB larvae spend most of their life inside the stem. Therefore, Bt corn can only be effective in fighting ECB if a way of introducing the bacteria into the corn stem is designed.
