Guidelines for assignment submission
- The unit Working With and Leading People has 4 Tasks. Please read ALL Tasks carefully.
- Each Task has its own submission date. Please submit all Assignments ON TIME.
- Only ON TIME and EEC submission will be considered for a MERIT and DISTINCTION grade.
- All tasks MUST be submitted on time to be considered for a MERIT grade.
- The attendance percentage and participation in class lessonsand tutorials will contribute towards the achievement of Distinction grade.
- All assignments will be subject to PLAGIARISM checks. PLAGIARISM is a serious academic offence and will automatically lead to ACADEMIC MISCONDUCT PROCEDURES. In the event of COLLUSION (similar/identical submissions) please note that both students will automatically be subject to ACADEMIC MISCONDUCT
PROCEDURES.

Scenario
You have recently been recruited as a Human Resource Trainee in British Gas having just completed your HND Business course. Your Human Resource Director, William Hodgson wanted to review your skills and knowledge needed for working with and leading others, through understanding the importance of recruiting the right people for the job to help him decide your future pathway within the organisation.
Mr Hodgson has wanted to know your expertise in recruitment, selection and retention procedures to ensure the organisation employs the right people for the job. Thus following a vacant position in the marketing division of the company, he requested you to design and prepare documentation to recruit a new qualified marketing manager. Submit all documents and information in a report.
1.1 Prepare documentation e.g. Job description and Person Specification to select and recruit a new marketing manager
1.2 Within the report, explain employment relevant legal, regulatory and ethical issues and assess the impact it may have on recruiting a marketing manager. For example; you could consider diversity issues, including legal requirements and obligations and business and ethical cases regarding diversity; legislation and requirements relating to employment, workers’ welfare and rights, health and safety issues.
1.3 Also include a detailed description of your role and responsibilities as an HR trainee in the recruitment and selection process for the marketing manager.
1.4 Finally, evaluate your own contribution to the recruitment and selection process of the right candidate by providing a REFLECTIVE STATEMENT of your involvement in the process
Use appropriate report format with an introduction at the beginning, main body with headings and sub-headings and conclusion at the end. A cover page, table of contents page, references list and bibliography would be at highest standard. The report might be written in 1000 – 1200 words
To achieve M1, you will make effective judgements while explaining employment relevant legal, regulatory and ethical issues and assess the impact it may have on recruiting a marketing manager.

Scenario
You are requested by Mr Hodgson to investigate different leadership styles and their impact. He asked you to present your findings in next management meeting so managers can understand different aspects of leadership. Your presentation need to answer the following questions/issues:
2.1 Explain the skills and attributes required for leadership role within the British Gas. In order to explain skills and attributes required for leadership role you may investigate leadership power and control e.g. French and Raven; delegation; emotional intelligence e.g. Higgs and Dulewicz etc.
2.2 Discuss differences between leadership and Management with examples from British Gas.
2.3 Compare theories, models and leadership styles that can be applied in resolving at least two of these situations within a department team in British Gas.
