Question 1

Background

You are working for firm of Chartered Surveyors. Your department specialises in providing construction and procurement advice to a number of commercial organisations. As part of a team you have been providing procurement advice to two business clients, one is an owner occupier electronic components manufacturer and the other an experienced property developer. The firm has worked with both firms on a number of occasions and are aware of each clients’ approach to programme, cost, quality, risk and the like. Your manager is on annual leave.

Scenario

You receive the following e-mail from one of the firm’s directors. “Martin, When driving through the local Industrial Estate I was concerned to see that we seem to be sending different signals to the industry as we have two projects for basically the same advanced factory unit being procured and delivered in completely different ways. Why on earth have we got one D&B job roaring away on site and sad looking” coming soon” sign board for a Trad-Build factory for Talis?
