9IntroductionGeorge Washington was the first President of the United States of America, the commander-in-chief of the Continental Army in the American Revolutionary War against Great Britain and the political and military leader of the United States from 1775 to 1799. He presided over the Constitutional Convention which later became the Constitution of the United States. George Washington is accepted and universally known as the Father of his country. Arguably George Washington is the most important political figure in the history of America. He was a great leader and a great president. His contributions during the war and after the war as the president were very crucial for the country in becoming a strong and well financed nation and becoming the number one super power of the world in later years. His actions and contributions for the country made him one of the most important and effective people in the history of the United States.BiographyGeorge Washington was born on February 22, 1732 near Colonial Beach in Westmoreland Country, Virginia. He was the first child of Augustine Washington and Mary Ball Washington. His family was very rich and was involved in tobacco planting. During that time, the Colonial Virginia was a slave society and the economy largely depended on slave labor. His family was into this business and made quite a fortune.Washington received his early education from elementary school and variety of tutors. At the age of seventeen, he joined Culpeper County as a surveyor. In February 1753, he was appointed as one of the four district adjutants by Governor Dinwiddie with a Major rank in Virginia militia. With this, the military life for George Washington began. He showed great bravery in the French and Indian Wars and the Seven Years War which continued from 1754 to 1758. During the war, he was awarded with a commission as the Colonel of the Virginia Regiment and Commander in Chief of all forces now raised in the defense of His Majesty`s Colony by Governor Dinwiddie. He was in charge of defending the frontier of Virginia. He retired from the Virginia Regiment commission in December 1758.His service period in the Virginia Regiment was very crucial for his later life as his life in the army taught him valuable political, leadership and military skills.
