Application: Organizational Design
How would you advise an organization with structural or cultural problems? This Application provides an you with OPD experience as you use concepts you have studied to develop a set of recommendations for the organization, Fabricate-It, Inc., described in the reading.
To prepare for this assignment:
Read the description of Fabricate-It, Inc. in "Practicing OB: Reconsidering an Organizational Design" on p. 551 in Behavior in Organizations.
Review the information in both texts on organizational design and structures, noticing the similarities and differences in approaches and terminology of the authors in each text.
Think about organizations with which you are familiar. How would you describe the organizational design/structure of these organizations? How do the concepts and terminology from the texts compare with those used in these organizations?
Consider the advice you would give to as an OPD professional about how to redesign the organizations described in "Reconsidering Organizational Design."
