Report
The assignment brief:
The individual assignment will be a report of 2500 word (+/- 10%) demonstrating the ability of the
student to evaluate and analyse a problem related to a data set by means of statistical methods
learned during the lectures.
The students will be introduced to a fictional company that has designed and run an employee
survey to solve current challenges. The survey is linked to financial and performance records of the
company. Each student will be issued with a unique variation of a simulated dataset. Students write
a report addressed to the Board of Directors. The report should include a short description of the
background of the problem, a brief report of the data preparation, analysis, interpretation of the
results with recommendations for actions. In addition, students should critically evaluate the
quality of the questionnaire and the analysis. The analysis should include descriptive statistics,
tests, correlation and regression. The report should follow a classic structure including an executive
summary as well as a log about data preparation as appendix. The log should be user friendly with
appropriate illustration to enable a reproduction of the analysis with the same results.

Background
In the last JCC (Joint Consultation Committee) meeting between senior management and employee
representatives, employee representatives reported about increasing dissatisfaction of shop floor
staff with recent restructuring in the company. They pointed out that employees feel more and
more detached from their work resulting in lower commitment to their work. Since firms sales also
declined recently, the senior management issued an employee survey to investigate workplace
issues and their impact on performance. They are also interested in the role and communication of
line managers as transmitters of companies’ strategy to shop floor employees.
You are commissioned to analyse the survey and write a report for the next Board of Directors
meeting. The survey has been linked to financial and HR records to permit a comprehensive analysis
of the problem. Employee representatives own the key data to merge the three data-sources. This
should secure anonymity for employees.
The data include the following variables from administrative records:
