In this paper, you are supposed to write literature review on financial accounting by focusing on one area of controversy using APA format. In addition to this, describe the competing theories for dealing with the issue appropriately in accordance with GAAP and IRFS together with stating its strengths and weaknesses. Apart from this, follow all the instructions mentioned above accurately along with the implementation of credible citations and quotations by avoiding plagiarism.

Do a literature review as background in describing the competing theoretical views. Reference sources using APA style. For example, in the body of the paper cite the reference as (Watts and Zimmerman 1979). In the bibliography list only the references you cited in the paper.

Determine how the issue is currently being accounted for under GAAP and also according to IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards) and critique these approaches from a theoretical basis. For example provide strengths and weaknesses of the approach. 

Provide your opinion and justify it as to the best approach. You can provide reasons that are not limited to the theory, but you must justify whatever conclusions you reach.

If you choose a topic that was touched on in class you must do it in much greater depth and use additional sources then whatever occurred in class. 

The paper can be no more than 10 pages double-spaced 12 point font (not counting bibliography or tables, etc.) I expect most papers will be between 7-10 pages. I will not read anything after the 10^th page. Hand in 2 copies of the paper. One copy will be used for an assessment exercise and will not be returned. The other copy will be graded and returned. 

You must reference whatever sources you used for both ideas and for paraphrasing. Papers with few or no references will receive a failing grade. Do not copy what other people have said unless you put them in quotes. Use your own words whenever possible. Plagiarism will result in a zero on the paper and probable failure for the course. 

You may contact me if you have chosen a topic and you want my opinion of the topic, but that is not a requirement. 

Your name should appear only on the Title page (see next page) and not in any other place in the paper.
