Introduction
Your objective is to produce an information booklet which is detailed but more conciseand succinct than your semester 1 essay. Your information booklet will present the scientific and clinical information for a chosen topic, and, if applicable, you will discuss the issues ‘for and against’ the topic, as given in your chosen booklet descriptor.
The information booklet will require the same amount of research as for your essay and should be fully referenced in accordance with the guidelines in your module handbook. However, your information must be contained in a finite number of pages and thus you will need to make more use of tables and figures to summarise data. Presentation is also important and there are no constraints on the presentation of the booklet. Therefore, you can choose your own font, text format and use of colour to produce a professional and effective booklet.
Aims
To abstract information from appropriate journal articles, books, reports, websites and references to produce a booklet addressing one of the topics chosen from the list on page 2.
To prepare a logical, evidence-based and well-written booklet which is supported by cross-referenced and relevant tables and figures.
To present the information in a suitable format to inform your peers and/or healthcare professionals.
Method
You will select a topic from the list by submitting your top 4 selections via an on-line submission. Normally no more than 12 students will work on a given topic.
You must select references appropriate to the topic ensuring that you gather information and abstract key facts relevant to the topic. Typically, we would expect to see more than 5 and less than 20 references for this exercise.
The process will be similar to that used for your essay:
Research the topic
Preparation of a draft and discussion with your supervisor
Preparation and submission of the final booklet
