Summary

At the beginning of the Quarter, I was asked to ask to describe the image that comes to my mind when I think of the Chinese body. In my response, I talked about the sexuality of man and the significant impact of the nude body on the meaning and the understanding of human sexuality. I talked about how in the past, the nude body was not accepted in China, but since the ideas of the West have entered this region and introduced new concepts and meaning of the nude body. Moreover, nude bodies have a significant impact on matters related to sexuality and stimuli arousal among individuals of opposite sex. Thus, “nude bodies influence the sexuality of people in society.” I concluded that Western notions on the embodiment that includes the gynecology and obstetrics have significantly introduced new technological methods and concepts for physical fitness and reproduction in the 20th Century. This had the impact of changing the notion of the Chinese culture in relation to the meaning of the body. As such, the Chinese are now appreciating nude bodies in their artwork, which was something that they have never done until the presentation of ideas by the Western observers. Nudity is gradually accepted by the mass public, as the media to convey deeper meanings. Moreover, nude bodies are now being commercialized and used across the globe.
