There are simply 2 elements to this task. You will first create a summary/abstract of your understanding of the main points in the article. This will be in your own words and will not require references for this section. You will demonstrate what you have understood to be the key points made in the article.

The second part is your discussion. This discussion will show that you have researched other articles on the topic and will present differing viewpoints/ideas from other sources and industries. You will demonstrate a broad range of reading and the discussion is meant to be an informed analysis of the topic/ideas you have researched. There should be evidence of plenty of good sources that have been referenced. Do not simply refer to other articles in the reference of the journal article we have provided, you are expected to do your own research. The writing should be of good academic standard for this level of study and using Harvard referencing.

Helpful Tips for Task 1
1. Identify the key points
Carefully read the article.
First, read it at once and think about what the key points are.
Second, read it more carefully, taking notes. Pay attention to the structure, and to the
arguments (How are they presented? What evidence supports these points?).
2. Summarise in abstract form
Create your own abstract of the article based on what you think the key points are. Do not
copy existing abstracts.
3. Look for other sources
Look for further information on the topic (news reports, professional websites, etc.). Does
the topic fit in current debates? Also search for different viewpoints.
What are the other areas/issues that exist in the industry in the article.
4. Academic analysis based on Research and Discussion
Think about how the topic fits in academic frameworks. Look for relevant academic
concepts. Present the information and sources identified and explain how they are related
to the topic. Explain how these sources can contribute to the debate.
Do not forget to quote the references
Compare and contrast your additional sources with the article.
Use academic terminology and concepts.
Do not use the same references used in the journal article, you are expected to find
your own.
