Assessment 1: Individual Strategy Report

The aim of this assessment is to provide students with the opportunity to investigate various strategic issues in tourism and discuss their implications on a specific sector of the Industry.

You are required to write a 3000 word individual strategy report which will require you to undertake extensive research both primary and secondary. See below for details of task etc.

According to Slack et al (2007: 677) “the ultimate test for any Operations Manager is whether he or she can develop an operation that meets the challenges which lie ahead for the organisation.”

With the above in mind and using a specific sector of your choice, investigate 2 key management or operational challenges, which it will eventually face. Discuss their implications and present an evaluation of the measures you would propose to meet these challenges.

For this piece of work you are to employ secondary and primary research. You need to make sure that you can gain access to a company within the sector you chose, as the findings of your primary research will support your sector analysis.

When conducting your interviews ask 5-6 questions on each of the challenges and then discuss them in context with your secondary research and the sector that you have chosen.
