Assignment 3: Individual Multimedia Blog

The assignment:

Create an online blog based around a relevant topic for this module (see below for guidance), and submit a supporting document (750 words).

This assignment is individual. It is worth 25% of the overall module mark.

The main objective for you is to meet the criteria you set yourself for the blog. You need to base your own criteria on the following questions:

- What is the subject of your blog, and what is the rationale behind your choice?

- What is the blog meant to do/achieve, i.e. what is its purpose? Note that there may be a main aim but also a set of objectives/secondary purposes.

- Who is the blog’s audience – who will read it and why? Note that there may be secondary target groups as well.

These criteria should be met implicitly in your blog, but you will also get the chance to explain this more explicitly in your 750 word supporting document accompanying the blog (submitted via WebLearn).

In addition to the questions above, the supporting document should address what opportunities there are for the blog in terms of sponsorship, collaboration and/or partnerships (this is to test your ability to see the bigger picture, i.e. where your blog fits within the wider events/business/tourism community).

You will be assessed on how well you have met your own criteria in the blog. In addition, the quality of your writing is important – is your tone suitable for the subject, and for the presumed readership and potential partners/sponsors?

The 750 word document should support the actual blog as per above – and although the blog itself is the main component, the document is important as it sets the criteria and explains how the blog meets them.

Practical guidelines:

The blog should have a title, and “About” section and at least 5 (five) separate blog entries. More entries are of course recommended, as you will be able to give the blog a clearer identity the more blog posts you include.

There is no recommended word count for separate entries (or the blog as a whole), as some may be image driven and some may be text driven. Text heavy blogs are OK as long as they are well written, but it is recommended that you include some pictures too (and, if relevant, embedded video clips).

You will get a clearer idea once you start looking more closely at other blogs, as you will realise what works for you (and your potential audience).

Note that any pictures used need to be referenced in a manner appropriate for the blog. You may use any suitable blogging platform, such as e.g. WordPress

As with any type of writing (or creative endeavour for that matter), it is important to read and take an interest in what others within the field do. So, the key advice is to read other blogs and to learn from them – and do also read about blogs and blogging. There are plentiful of books covering blogging, including many texts on digital PR and social media strategy.

Choosing a topic and an approach:

A wide range of topics are suitable for the blog. You could either write about an existing business event, or a type/category of business events, or you could use the blog to try out an idea/ideas you have for a completely new business event.

There is also the opportunity to write about something relating to business events and tourism (such as themes/topics covered in the module, which may also include: e.g. careers in the field, gender and equality relating to the field, sustainability, etc.) – if you are unsure of the suitability of your topic please consult the lecturer.

When you decide on an approach for the blog, you may want to consider these questions and points:

Do your entries align to the general purpose of the blog?

It is important to have a clear idea about what you want the blog to do.

Do you, for example, want to give advice?

Report on events?

Dissect a section of the events or tourism industry?

Is it more of a marketing blog?

These are just some examples, and various combinations are possible. Again, it is crucial that you meet your own criteria for the blog.

Some further questions that may be of help:

Is the idea/topic of the blog current, original and does it fit well within the business events area?

Is the content of the blog clearly articulated and managed?

Does the information provided in the blog incorporate theoretical and practical information?

What is the target group of the blog?

How is the target group linked to the content?

Dissemination and Submission:

The supporting document (750 words) needs to be submitted via WebLearn (and a draft 3 days before the Week 27 session starts), along with a Web link to the blog itself. The assessment of the actual blog will be based on entries posted by Thursday 10 May 2018 at 3pm.

The Week 27 session will be centred around informal discussion and presentations of your blogs. The presentation is not graded, but it will give you the chance to clarify and explain further certain aspects of your blog. It also provides you with an opportunity to share information with your colleagues and to learn from/be inspired by your peers.

A masterpiece of assignment by , written on 2020-03-12

Oh my god! This writing company has saved me from so many bothering and figured out my problem in the best way possible. I am not fond of reading and when this book review was given to me as part of my coursework, I went into depression. But I must say, my writer came up with an amazing book review covering all the major aspects of the book nicely. I am waiting for other assignments to come so that I would come here again. The place is good and quite reasonable as well which makes it easy for me to manage my budget.
