It has become an alarming reality that most children in the modern society spend their childhood living with a single parent. There is also an increasing trend of non residential parents being detached over time and paying no or minimal child support. The costs on the affected children as well as the society of such disengagement have proved to be far from trivial. The connections relating custody arrangements, child support, child well being and parental involvement are still not well covered by the previous studies. Most of the research on single parenting are based on unrepresentative, small samples or on divorcing couples experiences in a particular area. Such studies do not truly reflect the real experiences of most of the affected children and the custodial parents as well as the consequences of such family set up to the parents, children and society. More studies need to be conducted on issues related to the rise of divorce cases, the difference between the dual patents and single parents with more focus being directed towards the impacts of these families on children, parents and the society at large.
