Objective:

The objective of this assignment is to further investigate and analyse the effect of applying CMMI practices/processes in an Agile environment in terms of business performance improvement and the limitations/restrictions of using both, and write a research report of approximately 2500-3000 words (excluding references). In doing so, students should investigate the following quote from a Technical Report published by SEI (Software Engineering Institute) and in light of the quote, write the report on the effect of CMMI in conjunction with one of the agile methods [Select one from the list below].

"..... Implementing CMMI practices in an organization that uses Agile methods, while remaining faithful to Agile principles, should also yield well-conceived Agile practices that maintain a lean, high-trust set of activities sufficient for the development of the product." (Glazer, Dalton, Anderson, Konrad & Shrum, 2008)1

Students are to review current literature on the particular methods/models [CMMI and the chosen agile method] and state facts, analysis and understanding from the current literature as well as the concepts and laws learned in this course.

The report should take the form of a well-researched academic paper, and at no time should degenerate into the author’s unsupported opinion. The point of the exercise is to highlight an investigation that is currently being considered in the area of Software Engineering practices in organisations. Your research should be well supported with references from respected sources. You should include academic journals, books, theses, trade magazines and well-respected sources of related Internet material as you find is relevant. The report should be written according to the APA style guide.

Additional Task:

Answer the following research question posed on page 286 of the textbook2:

“How can experiments and case studies be conducted more easily in an industrial setting answering key questions relevant to a specific organization? This would help to avoid the not-applicable-here (NAH) syndrome.”
