UNIT AIM

This unit aims to develop learners ‘skills of independent enquiry and critical analysis by undertaking a sustained research investigation of direct relevance to their higher education programme and professional development

Completing the tasks

In order to complete the tasks you will need to research different information sources such as textbooks, journals articles and the internet.  You are also required to develop skills in analysis and synthesis of information.  Analysis requires you to critically examine different aspects of a topic and identify important issues.  Synthesis requires you to summarise the information you have analysed in a cosies and coherent manner.  Make use of information on assignment preparation and command verb usage in your Moodle Platform. 1.3     (AC 1.3) Undertake a critical review of key references demonstrating the use of a range of sources of information (M2).

1.4     Produce a research project specification (AC 1.4 )

1.5     Provide an appropriate plan and procedures for the agreed research specification (AC 1.5). Your plan should include efficient matching of resources to the research question and/ hypothesis (AC2.1) demonstrating an effective approach to study and research (M1)

TASK 2: Conducting your research and ensuring accuracy and validity and Evaluation of Research outcomes

Scenario

Your senior manager has approved your proposal and has given you permission to conduct your project and produce a report.

(AC 2.2, 2.3) Undertake the proposed research investigation in accordance with the agreed specification and procedures, recording and collating relevant data where appropriate.

Produce a detailed research report highlighting a detailed introduction, literature search and methodology for data collection (Evidence type: Research report_methodology  ± questionnaires, data base, consent forms recorded interviews where appropriate)

To achieve D2 you must demonstrate the ability to plan manage and organise your project effectively and in an independent manner and meet the deadlines for completion and final submission of these tasks.

Expand on your research report by including(3.2). An analysis and interpretation of the results as proposed by the original research specification (AC 3.2) (Evidence type: Research report-Results & Discussion).  The interpretation of results must demonstrate the ability to generate ideas and make effective decisions (D3)

(3.1) Using appropriate research evaluation techniques to comment on the validity and reliability of your results (AC 3.1) (Evidence type: Research report-limitations) demonstrating self-criticism of approach using a defined criteria (D1).

(3.3) A set of recommendations and justification of areas for further consideration (AC 3.3) (Evidence type: Research report-Recommendations).
